Schwenk Resigns at Doane College to Take Head Football Coaching Job at William Jewell College

(5/15/05) Fran Schwenk, the all-time winningest coach in school history, has announced that he would be leaving Doane College to take the head coaching position at William Jewell College in Missouri. He leaves the Tigers with a career mark of 116-86-3 record. Offensive Coordinator Dan Dieringer will accompany him on his new venture. In 1997, Schwenk guided the Tigers to the semifinals of the NAIA national playoffs.

"Fran Schwenk coached two of the greatest teams in Doane's football history, the undefeated (regular season) teams of 1993 and 1997. As the Doane coach with the most wins, Fran recruited some great players who were excellent students and fine young men. Fran understood the role of football at Doane, win or lose, with class. We wish him well, unless we meet William Jewel in a playoff game," said Dr. Fred Brown, president of Doane College.

The Doane College community wishes the best for Coach Schwenk and his wife, Sue, who have been instrumental in the football program and college for 21 years.
