Grand Valley State Moves to No. 1 in AFCA Poll

Grand Valley State survived a scare at Ashland last Saturday and was able to come away with a 14-10 victory. That
win, coupled with Valdosta State’s (Ga.) upset loss, propelled the Lakers to the No. 1 ranking in this week’s AFCA Division
II poll. This marks the fourth consecutive season that GVSU has been ranked No. 1. The Lakers should be ranked first
again next week as the team has an open date on Saturday. GVSU will be in action again on Oct. 1 when the Lakers host
Wayne State.

Saginaw Valley State, coming off a 42-3 home win over Wayne State, climbed two places in the poll. The No. 9 Cardinals
will travel to Hillsdale on Saturday for a battle with the 2-2 Chargers. Michigan Tech was idle last week but managed to move
up two places to No. 15. The Huskies will host Ashland at Sherman field on Saturday.
Northwood, the GLIAC’s fourth team in the poll, also jumped two rungs and landed at No. 21, after recording a road
win at Mercyhurst. The Timberwolves will welcome Findlay to Hantz Stadium on Saturday.
