Saluki wide receiver Brent Little signs with Cleveland Browns

Southern Illinois University wide receiver Brent Little signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League on Monday.

Little, who is the second-most prolific receiver in school history, will participate in the team's rookie camp that starts Thursday.

"It was a childhood dream of mine to play in the NFL," Little said. "Now I'm one step closer. I can't wait to get to Cleveland and get to work."

The Browns may be an ideal match for Little. Cleveland is coming off a 6-10 season in 2005 and has question marks at the receiving position. Last year's first-round pick, Braylon Edwards, suffered a knee injury in November, and may not be back to start the season. The team's other starting wideout from last year, Antonio Bryant, did not re-sign with the club.

A four-year starter, Little caught 124 passes in his career for 2,303 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Poplar Bluff, Mo. native impressed scouts with 40-yard dash times in the 4.4 range during his campus workouts in the spring.

Little said the Browns told him they would have drafted him if they had any more picks in the draft, which took place Saturday and Sunday in New York. Cleveland selected 10 players in the seven-round draft, including one receiver, Oklahoma's Travis Wilson.
