RICARDO COLCLOUGH NAMED TSWA PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NASHVILLE --- Tusculum College's Ricardo Colclough has been named the Tennessee College Football Player of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced College officials Wednesday.

Colclough, a senior cornerback from Sumter, S.C., had a phenomenal season for the Pioneers, garnering All-American honors from six organizations and publications this season, making him the most decorated football player in Tusculum history. He was recognized by AFCA, Associated Press, Dopke.com, D2Football.com, Daktronics and Football Gazette. He was also named the National Defensive Back of the Year by the Football Gazette.

Colclough recorded 59 tackles (37 solo) with 24 passes defended including 11 interceptions. His passes defended and interception totals this season are new school records and ranked third in NCAA Division II. In addition, he averaged 29.1 yards per kick return with two touchdowns and 14.2 yards per punt return with one touchdown en route to first team All-South Atlantic Conference and All-South Region First Team honors at both positions. For his efforts, he was named SAC Defensive Player of the Year and was a national finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which honors the Division II National Player of the Year.

Last month, he was the only Division II player to participate in the 2004 Senior Bowl. In that contest, he started in the defensive backfield for the North squad and was the squad's top return specialist. He was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player for the North team.

Colclough helped lead the Pioneers to a 9-2 overall record and the program's first South Atlantic Conference championship with 6-1 record. Tusculum also finished the season ranked No. 19 in the country.

Tusculum College is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of eight colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
