LAVIGNE LEAVES GRAMBLING STATE'S FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF
GRAMBLING, La. Defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Tom Lavigne has officially left the Grambling State football coaching staff to pursue other opportunities. He has officially submitted his letter of resignation to head coach Melvin Spears.
He officially came on board during this past winter while spending the previous season as the linebackers coach at Southern University. He recently completed the 2004 spring drills with the Grambling State coaching staff.
Lavigne got his start in coaching at Joseph S. Clark High School in his native New Orleans, Louisiana where he served as both the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. He also served in the same capacity at O.Perry Walker, Walter L. Cohen, John McDonough and John Erhet High Schools.
Lavigne would head to Oxford, Mississippi where he would serve as the defensive backs coach at Ole Miss. During his time there, the Rebels would play in both the Independence Bowl and the Music City Bowl.
In 2003, Lavigne accepted a position as the linebackers coach at Southern University. During that season, the Jaguars would win both the Southwestern Athletic Conference and National Black College Championship while finishing the year with a 12-1 overall record.
As an athlete, Lavigne was a standout defensive back under the legendary Eddie Robinson while at Grambling State. He also received both his bachelors and masters degrees while at Grambling State.
