SaintXavier-McKendree Game To Raise Money For Hurricane Relief

CHICAGO – When No. 6 ranked Saint Xavier University (Ill.) and No. 5 McKendree College (Ill.) match up at SXU Stadium in Chicago Saturday at 1 p.m., fans in attendance will be rewarded with more than just a great football game. They will be helping raise money for NAIA institutions affected by Hurricane Katrina. Saint Xavier University has recently announced that 100 percent of all revenue from ticket sales and donations received at Saturday’s huge Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) game will be donated to the NAIA Katrina Relief Fund.

The NAIA designated the month of October as NAIA Katrina Relief Month. Nine NAIA member institutions in the Gulf Coast region have been or will continue to be severely affected by Hurricane Katrina. Of these nine, five institutions (Dillard, Loyola (La.), SUNO, Xavier and the New Orleans and Mississippi Gulf Coast campuses of William Carey) have cancelled fall classes and are facing extremely difficult rebuilding processes.

“This is a time when we, the NAIA, can reach out and help those member institutions in need,” said NAIA President and CEO Steve Baker. “I hope each of our schools will join us in this effort to help.”
