Peacock Signs Pro Football Contract

ABILENE, Texas – Former McMurry football standout Rory Peacock recently signed a professional contract with the Odessa RoughNecks of the Intense Football League (IFL), according to the club’s Website.
A 6-2, 200-pound wide receiver out of Woodson High School, Peacock still holds school career records for receptions (161), receiving yards (2,634) and touchdown receptions (40). Among his honors during a four-year career at McMurry from 1997-2000: four-time all-American Southwest Conference selection; all-American as both a junior and senior; 2000 Verizon/CoSIDA second-team Academic All-American; and nominated for the 2000 Melberger Award, the small-college equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. Peacock is the only non-NCAA Division I player on the 40-man squad.
Peacock joins Jeff Duncan, Braxton Shaver and Wes Tidwell as McMurry alumni currently playing professional football. Duncan, Shaver and Tidwell all play in Europe; Jon Rhiddlehoover also played there.
Beginning its inaugural season in 2004, the IFL is an indoor-arena league based in Texas with teams in Amarillo (Dusters), Corpus Christi (Hammerheads), El Paso (Rumble), Lubbock (Lone Stars), San Angelo (Stampede) and Odessa. The IFL will play a 16-game regular-season schedule from May to September, plus the playoffs, and the first All-Star Game will be played July 11 at Memorial Stadium in Corpus Christi. The league’s mission is to provide family-oriented entertainment at economical prices and to sign athletically-skilled players so that they can utilize the IFL as a stepping stone to NFL training camps.
