Emmert on Track for NAIA Record
By TOM STUBER - IR Sports Writer
Carroll College quarterback Tyler Emmert is now just 714 yards behind Jon Kitna’s NAIA record for total yards. Emmert collected 222 yards (221 passing, 1 rushing) against Montana Tech in the Saints 45-3 win.
A correction by the Carroll College Athletic Department shows Emmert’s completion percentage now at 71.6 percent, not 72.5 percent as posted in the IR last week. That mark would still represent the best completion percentage in college football history for quarterbacks with 1,000 or more attempts. Emmert is 902-of-1,259 for 11,098 yards and 90 touchdowns for his career. He has thrown just 23 interceptions.
Emmert would need to throw 30 straight incomplete passes to fall below 70 percent. Of all quarterbacks with over 1,000 pass attempts, Chris Hatcher of Division II Valdosta State has the top completion percentage of all time at 69.0 percent.
For Emmert’s 71.6 percent completion percentage to fall behind Hatcher, he would need to throw 49 straight in-completions. If Emmert throws 200 passes before his career ends, he would only need to complete 106 (53 percent) to finish ahead of Hatcher. He would need to complete 120 (60 percent) to stay over 70 percent
