WOU Football Squad to Square Off
West Salem HS to Host Wolves for first of two scrimmages
MONMOUTH— Coach Duke Iverson’s Western Oregon football team will get a chance to test themselves in a game-like scrimmage on Saturday (May 22) at West Salem High School.
Start time for the approximately 70-play workout is 1:30 p.m. The Wolves will then wrap up four weeks of spring practice next Thursday (May 27) with a final scrimmage at McArthur Field at 7 p.m.
“We are excited to take our show to the road,” said Iverson. “We are really pleased to be at West Salem High School, as we have so many kids from the Valley League and the area on our squad. We are always looking for ways to strengthen our link to those fine programs.”
Saturday’s modified scrimmage will feature officials, to make the action as game-like as possible. The team will hit the field at 12:45 p.m., with the first play from scrimmage at 1:30.
There will no admission charge, and concessions will be available.
“This will be our first chance to see some of our guys in a game-style situation,” Iverson continued. “The players are looking forward to that opportunity.”
The Wolves, who play in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference, will open the 2004 season on Sept. 4 with a 7 p.m. encounter at Willamette.
