VIKING SPRING GAME TAKES PLACE FRIDAY AT TIGARD HIGH SCHOOL

For the second straight year, the Portland State football team will have its annual Spring Game at Tigard High School. Kickoff is Friday at 7 p.m. as Head Coach Tim Walsh will lead his team through a 75-play scrimmage. Admission is free to the public.

More than 70 players have been competing in spring drills the past three weeks. Friday’s scrimmage will allow a number of redshirts and transfers the opportunity to impress PSU coaches as they prepare for the 2004 season. They include transfers Chuck Jones (DT), Adrian Limbrick (OL), Jason Daily (P) and George Quijano (LB), and highly-touted redshirt freshmen Peter St. John (OL), Brett Thielke (OL) and Jordan Senn (FS) among others.

Viking redshirts of note coming back off injuries include fullback Allen Kennett and offensive lineman Antonio Narcisse.

The Vikings will have a handful of players not competing due to injury or as they recover from fall injuries, including Joey King (LB), Mike Stachowiak (OL), Kelena Ho’okano (RB), Adam Whitehead (TE) and Kevin Keanaaina (DL).

Featured players who will compete include former Tigard High School stars Joe Wiser (QB) and Ryan Brown (WR), as well as Ryan Fuqua (RB), who enters the 2004 season as the leading active career ground gainer in NCAA 1-AA football (3,709 rushing yards). Starting offensive linemen Micah Jackson-Sattler and Steve Blatchley also return. Top returning defensive players include Tolo Tuitele (LB), Chris Berg (DT), Nick Chenault (SS), Jamal Abdullah (ROV) and Andrew Dorsey (DE).

Of the more than 70 players competing in spring ball, Portland State returns 39 letterwinners and 15 starters – seven on offense, seven on defense and one kicker/punter.
