Margaret Mason and Adam Kerins staff aggressive new approach to sponsorships
MORRISTOWN, N.J, August 3, 2005 – Steven J. Hatchell, president of The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF), announced today that Archie Manning has been named as the organization’s first co-chair of development. As part of a new initiative to secure corporate and private donors, Manning will work with Margaret Mason, who has been hired as the director of marketing, and Adam Kerins, a development associate.
“I believe in football’s unique ability to turn our kids into tomorrow’s leaders,” said Manning. “Having served on the NFF Board for 12 years, I truly appreciate the leadership role the Foundation plays in recognizing student-athletes and helping kids develop beyond the playing field. I am excited and honored to have this opportunity.”
In his new role, Manning and the development team will reach out to companies and private donors around the country with an interest in linking their financial support with the Foundation’s wide-ranging inventory of marquee events, awards and programs that promote the ideal of the scholar-athlete.
“Archie has great respect in football circles and has been a friend to so many,” said Hatchell. “He brings credibility to our efforts as the guiding voice of amateur football. His knowledge of sports business and the NFF create a unique combination that will ensure our relationships deliver measurable returns.”
A legendary quarterback from Ole Miss and a 1989 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame, Manning currently resides in New Orleans, La. and serves in public relations and consulting capacities for several companies. As part of the NFF’s aggressive new development strategy, Mason will play a key role in working with Manning to design and implement the plan, which will focus on combining the Foundation’s national appeal with its grassroots network of 119 chapters and more than 12,000 members.
“I have a passion for sports, especially college football, and no entity has a better history of promoting the good in the game than The National Football Foundation,” said Mason. “It’s a dream job to link companies with the mission of helping young student-athletes develop into our country’s future leaders.”
A 20-year marketing veteran, Mason is an expert in event management, working nationally with pharmaceutical companies. She has implemented hundreds of educational and promotional programs. Her clients have included Eli Lilly, Novartis, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Corporation, Aventis and Shire, among others. A University of Virginia graduate, Mason has worked to encourage alumni contributions through numerous outreach programs.
“Margaret has proven herself to be a creative and highly organized marketer, producing results for numerous Fortune 500 companies,” said Hatchell. “Her top-notch skills will prove a valuable asset as we look to partner with companies around the country with an interest in using football to reach their key audiences.”
Kerins, who has worked in the Foundation’s development office during the past two years, will assist Mason in developing sponsorship proposals and managing relationships with the organization’s donors. A graduate of the University of Delaware, Kerins also holds an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Founded in 1947 by Grantland Rice, General Douglas MacArthur, and Colonel (Red) Blaik, the NFF is a non-profit educational organization that runs programs designed to use the power of amateur football in developing scholarship, citizenship and athletic achievement in America’s young people. NFF programs include the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind., Play It Smart, The NFF Center for Youth Development Through Sport at Springfield College (Mass.), the NFL-NFF Coaching Academy and annual scholarships of nearly $1 million for college and high school scholar-athletes.
