SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FOOTBALL PREVIEW TO AIR ON FOX SPORTS NET SOUTHWEST

PLANO, Texas -- Southland Conference football fans will get a sneak peek at the upcoming gridiron season, when Fox Sports Net Southwest will feature the 2004 Southland Conference Football Preview during the August 17th edition of its nightly news program, Southwest Sports Tonight.

The 30-minute program will air at 6:30 p.m. Central and will be co-hosted by Kevin Eschenfelder and Dana Larson and feature interviews and highlights from all six Southland football programs.

“This is a great opportunity for Southland Conference fans to get a head start on the upcoming season,” league commissioner Tom Burnett said. “We are excited to promote our football programs and our student-athletes in this manner.”

The 41st season of Southland football kicks off Sept. 2 with Nicholls State University hosting Eastern Washington and Stephen F. Austin State University hosting Henderson State. The other four Southland squads start the year two nights later.

The Southland preview show is a prelude to the league’s ninth consecutive season of contests televised by Fox. This year’s slate consists of five games on the network with the first being Sept. 11 when future (2005) SLC member Southeastern Louisiana University visits defending league champ McNeese State University. A week later, Sam Houston State University hosts national power Montana in a non-conference game. The third Fox contest is scheduled for Oct. 9 when Florida Atlantic visits Texas State University in a non-conference game.
The final two Fox battles will be SLC games as Northwestern State University is at Nicholls State University on Oct. 21 and McNeese State is at Stephen F. Austin on Nov. 13.

In addition to the five fox contests, the Southland will have two games broadcast on Cox Sports Television in the state of Louisiana. SHSU is at SLU on Sept. 25 while Nicholls and McNeese close out the regular season on Nov. 20 on the Louisiana network.

For the second year in a row, the Southland will be featured in a national game of the week when College Sports Television picks up the McNeese State-Northwestern State tilt on Oct. 16.

The Southland Conference and Fox Sports Net Southwest are teaming up for the ninth consecutive year. Each Fox game will be broadcast into more than seven million cable television households throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and parts of New Mexico.
