Alcorn State Football to compete in Prince Georges Classic
ALCORN STATE, Ms. Officials of the Alcorn State University Athletic Department are proud to announce the football teams participation in the 1st Annual Prince Georges Classic against Howard University at FedEx Field on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. EST. The Classic will be a three-day event featuring Black College Football, cultural and community festivities.

The Prince Georges Classic was founder by the Prince Georges Black Chamber of Commerce in February of 2001. The Chambers mission is to aggressively promote and participate in small and minority business prosperity and community enrichment in Prince Georges County. The county, which is located in the Washington Metropolitan Region, is part of the 4th largest consumer market, the 5th richest retail market, the 7th largest effective buying income and the 8th largest media market. The objective of the Chamber is to turn the Prince Georges Classic into one of the most anticipated events on the Historically Black College and University football schedule.

The Braves are 1-3 lifetime against Howard, despite outscoring the Bison by a touchdown, 141-134, in the series. Howard enters this years contest riding a three game win streak over ASU. Alcorn State last played Howard in 1995 and fell to the Bison, 21-17. In 1993, Howard nipped the Braves, 38-36, and again in 1992, 48-42. Alcorn earned its lone victory in the first meeting during the 1991 season. High off a thrashing of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference counterpart Hampton University the week prior, Alcorn continued its dominance with a 46-27 victory over Howard.

Several various sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses, including: Corporate Tent Sponsorship, Half-time Battle of the Bands sponsor, Tailgate Club Part Sponsor, Signet, Jewel, Court and Thrown Level Sponsors, and Crown and Royal Sponsor. Tickets for the game go on sale July 2. For more on history, sponsorship and ticket information of the Inaugural Prince Georges Classic log onto www.princegeorgesclassic.com.

Alcorn State was originally slated to participate in the Chicago Classic against North Carolina A&T; however, the Chicago Bears organization does not permit any football activities to take place at Soldier Field five days prior to a home contest. Nonetheless, the Alcorn State North Carolina A&T match-up will still take place, as the Braves will host the Aggies from Jack Spinks Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at 6 p.m.
